What does "Tizmoret" mean, and how do you pronounce it?

Tizmoret is a Hebrew word that means "band" or "orchestra." It’s pronounced “teez-MOE-ret.”

How many members are in the group?

Each year we have 14 to 17 members, including our musical director, Daniel Henkin.

How many members perform at each gig or event?

We pride ourselves on our rich, full sound, so each gig has no less than 9 members, however, we’ll often have as many as 15 members present.

Are all of your members students at Queens College?

No! While we are closely affiliated with the Queens College Hillel and rehearse on campus, our members attend universities all throughout the tri-state area, from Long Island to Brooklyn to New Jersey. It is common for Tizmoret to have several post-grads as well!

How long has Tizmoret been around?

A young Daniel Henkin started Tizmoret in 1996!

Do you only perform in the tri-state area?

No! We love travelling for performances! We’ve been to many different states and countries!

What types of performances do you do?

We perform for synagogues, communities, b’nei mitzvot, weddings, schools, brunches, galas, senior homes and more. Let us know what you have in mind and we’ll let you know what we think is best!

How long are your full performances? And what type of music do you sing?

A full performance is 45 to 60 minutes. We sing all types of music, from Israeli pop songs to classic Jewish pieces to modern English music!

For what age is a Tizmoret performance suitable?

There is no age limit to enjoy a Tizmoret show! We cater to all ages, and tailor our songs and audience interaction to the demographic!
